Zero-Tariff Importation [FTA Treaty]
For certain countries, the Japanese Government has concluded a Free Trade Agreement treaties:
1) Brunei Darussalam, 2) Cambodia, 3) Indonesia, 4) Lao PDR, 5) Malaysia, 6) Myanmar, 7) Philippines, 8) Singapore, 9) Thailand, 10) Viet Nam, 11) Mexico, 12) Chile, 13) India, 14) Peru, 15) Australia, 16) Mongolia, 17) Switzerland. Currently under negotiations are a possible FTA agreement with: China, Korea and Colombia.
In most cases, zero-tariff importation (duty-free) is allowed with the presentation of an EPA Certificate (see sample document below) issued by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the certification of Wagyu Farms of Japan LLC. WFJ will send the document below as part of the air shipping papers together with your imported Wagyu. The document will allow you tax-exempt status. As a reference, the import tariff levied by the US Government on imported meat products such as Wagyu is a whopping 26%, yet Japanese Wagyu products remain popular in the United States of America.
It simply means, you can bring in imported Wagyu products into the countries listed above without paying import tariff levied by your Government. For due diligence, kindly check with JETRO offices located in your countries, as certain restrictions may apply. That would allow you pass on the savings to your retail or wholesale buyers, or increase your profit margin.
As a result, the trade volume of Japanese products will increase even more. You are potentially sitting on a gold mine—subject to hard work, due diligence and perseverance.
